Why are so many so upset with the Miers nomination?

Certainly some would say that Fred Vinson was the least distinguished CJ.
Although Stone did not hold the Court together well, as a justice he is
certainly not among "the least distinguished."
    And definitely Charles Evans Whittaker  (whom I noted in an earlier
message)
    From the frequency of mention in this regard, Sherman Minton.
