"Meaning of" removing "under God"

In a somewhat different vein, friends of mine have told that they used to add the two words "white people" to the end of the pledge to make it more accurate.  Of course, there was more than a little irony in forcing Black schoolchildren to recite the Pledge of Allegiance (with or without "under God") in segregated schools.
