compliance with the bar membership rules was simply overlooked.  Does
that disqualify him for a future appointment to the bench?
      Does this mean:
        1.   He didn't tell the tribunal, and therefore no one did
anything, or
         2.   He told the court that he wasn't a member of the CA bar
and the bench waived him in (whether or not in accordance with local
rules)?
     IMHO, the first is misconduct on the part of the professor. The
