I note the following comment by the Senate Minority Leader, Trent Lott,
with regard to the basically blank check handed Bush by Congress on Friday:

"It was not the time to 'quibble' or 'argue the legalisms,' said Sen. Trent
Lott, R-Miss., the minrotiy leader.  'The American people expect us to act.
 They expect us to be a team,' he said."

I think that Lott presents the only real question worth debating at the
present moment, whether, when the chips are down, the kind of stuff we
spend our time debating is treated by those in power (and by the public at
large) as mere "quibbling" or "legalisms" and, indeed, as potential
evidence of disloyalty if we suggest that there are more important things
than joining "the team."
