Perhaps the wrong issue

I think Eugene has a very plausible defense for Gonzalez.

But I think the focus should be on what we are doing rather than on what he
said on a news program.  Thus, if he had misspoken and said national
origin, but we are in fact only profiling non-citizens, I'm not very
troubled.  Conversely, if he referred only to country of origin for aliens,
but we in fact are detaining citizens based on national origin profiling,
his words are not so reassuring.
