History, law, and cite-checking

Given the amount that I've published, perhaps I can say (with some
authority?) that I have *never* -- and I mean *never* -- had a law
review editor at any law review -- and I mean *any* -- pursue any
cite-checking to the point that Eugene suggests "reasonable law review
cite-check[ers]" would. I don't think that Eugene is describing the
real world of cite-checking, at least as I have experienced it, and so I
doubt that his description can form a useful predicate for a comparison
between actual practices in history and the law review world.
