Edging toward Crisis

I think that Steve Griffin is absolutely right about "edging toward
crisis." Why isn't the solution a state-wide recount (plus the absentee
ballots), with the two sides stating a willingness to abide by the result?
That still gives the Bushies a significant advantage insofar as it deprives
Gore of the Palm Beach "Buchanan vote," not to mention the 19,000
double-punched votes. Is there any reason for Bush to reject this other
than the sense of (unfounded) entitlement that he has to the presidency?

And, incidentally, whatever side one is on, isn't it absolutely dismaying
(though certainly constitutional) that these two presumptive "leaders" are
resolutely avoiding engaging in any leadership at all and instead hiding
behind their "advisers" and "handlers"?
