As a longtime supporter of the electoral college system, I almost wish that
Gore had lost the popular vote and won the electoral vote, as was widely
speculated two days ago. I am confident that legions of law professors,
political scientists, and opinion leaders would now be making powerful
arguments in defense of this eminently-sensible way of choosing Presidents.
