Of course many Republicans think the Democrats had control of all three
branches during the Carter years and from '93-95; they realize the Court
was populated by Republican appointees, but the question is how
"Republican" were they? See the earlier discussion of why people today
think the Court is liberal, even though only two justices are Democratic
appointees. (Perhaps Republican and liberal are not exclusive terms?) Of
course that is all a judgment call, and many will reject the premise.
