Sorry for the delay in responding.  I've been out of town.

Judge Luttig did clerk for then-Judge Scalia on the D.C. Circuit, but his
father was killed long after his clerkship ended.  In fact, Judge Luttig
was already on the Fourth Circuit at the time of his father's slaying.
