Right! I tried with the original MultihopOscilloscope that comes with 
TinyOS 2.x and got similar results. The only question is now what part 
of the app prevents the processor from going to sleep mode. It might be 
the UART. So, try to compile a separate binary for your base station 
with UART and a separate binary for all others without UART. Do the 
others enter power save mode now?

Yes... Since I am doing simulations without a sensor board it does not 
hurt me. But feel free to implement :)
