This listserv provides quarterly updates on the progress of and information about the National Children’s Study and the Los Angeles-Ventura Study Center (NCS-LAVSC).

ABOUT US
The National Children’s Study (NCS) was established by federal legislation in 2000 in order to better understand the determinants of health of children in the United States. Over the course of the study, approximately 100,000 children will be observed from before birth through age 21 in an effort to examine how the environments in which children grow up affect their life-long health and well-being. In particular, the study will examine the effects of biological, chemical, physical, social, psychological, and behavioral influences on the long-term health and development of children. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has designated pregnancy outcomes, child growth and development, injury, asthma, and psychological and emotional health as priority outcomes of the study.
