| About EMRG | |
|
EMRG (Early Modern Research Group) is an interdisciplinary initiative at UCLA that brings together faculty and graduate students spanning a wide range of disciplines, geographic regions, and historical periods: literary scholars, historians and art historians, scholars working on music, philosophy, and the history of science--indeed, anyone with interests in the signal cultural, social, and political shifts of the early modern period. Our generous chronological range, from 1300 to 1800, reaches beyond the traditional Renaissance periodization and encourages exploration of a wide spectrum of issues and developments pertaining to the epochal changes of these centuries. Our trans-national focus addresses the broad understanding of early modern expansions and cross-cultural contacts: this implies a focus on the whole of Europe, to be sure, yet also the Americas, Asia and Africa, enriching the consideration of issues and problems in this period with a cross-cultural and trans-national perspective.
